“I was a
hidden treasure, and I longed to be known.” – Unknown
This is clearly
one of the paradoxes of being human. We all have untapped potential. However,
we also have an unspoken fear. We fear that one day we may perform
less than our potential. As a result, we hide our power from the world. If no one sees it, it cannot be expected.
At the same
time, we all crave acknowledgement. What an insane way to live! By not
performing at our potential, we are left craving the very thing we want. Until
we live up to our potential, acknowledgement is missing.
On the other
hand, if we live up to our potential, we fear people will expect our greatness
all the time. Therefore, our focus is on the one day we may not feel like
living up to our potential. So we avoid it all, even though that formula
deprives us of the acknowledgement we seek.
What seems like
a dilemma is really a matter of choice. Do you want to spend your entire life
depriving yourself of what you want? Are you afraid of being at your best and
acknowledged for it, because one day you may not feel like it? Or would you
like to embrace your hidden treasure so that you are fully experiencing
yourself and life?
While the
choice sounds simple, we have been conditioned to hide ourselves. Listen to
that voice inside of you that longs to be known. Take a stand for that voice
and use everyday as practice to display your hidden treasure. This would not be
a competition. It would be the opportunity to explore what’s possible beyond
what you already know about yourself.
Try it! In the
process, you will become the person you always wanted to be.
