For more than a century, the United States has been
considered a melting pot. It is a
country where people from all over the world come to find opportunity and make
a new life. In the beginning,
different ethnic groups may have had a difficult time coming together because
of language differences. Over
time, everyone adopted English and other US customs. That put everyone on
common ground and opened the door for
younger generations to intermingle.
While many ethnic groups cautiously intermarried, black and
white interracial relationships were illegal for decades. Since those barriers have been removed,
people are free to have relationships with whomever they choose. Except, some level of social stigma may
still remain a hidden conversation for some ethnic groups.
On this show, we will explore the social stigmas. Are there differences in dating outside
of your so-called race? Is there
an exotic infatuation with the differences in look, culture or sexual
prowess? Or is it possible for two
people to simply love one another as human beings? Does an interracial relationship create unnecessary stress
for the couple? If they have
children, does being a mixed race cause them to be alienated?
