Here's Why Every CEO Should Make Themselves Obsolete

In an interview with Jeff Munn, we addressed the complexities of transforming corporate culture. In the beginning, he zeroed in on my personal experience as an executive and entrepreneur. As the conversation progressed, he and I dove into strategies and tactics to make the operations team a competitive advantage. Throughout the discussion, we explored how individuals and teams can be derailed by conflict. At the same time, the very conflict that derails people can be used as coachable moments to increase the value of staff and management. For many leaders, however, coachable moments are used to tell people how the leader would do things. What we discovered is that creates a dependency for leadership to always have the answer. That becomes a trap for leadership and handicaps operations. That trap requires leaders to constantly work in the weeds of daily operations. As for operations, it weakens their ability to make tough decisions. And ultimately, there is no one as the helm of the ship who can steer the business into new profitable opportunities. With that understanding, we were able to discuss case studies for how to unlearn unproductive habits and replace them with effective practices. We discussed specifics of transforming culture and the importance of training operations to be able to more effectively handle every day challenges without the need for input from leadership.
